Join the Welcome Committee
Afghan refugees are being resettled to Bloomington very soon! First Methodist is organizing a Welcome Committee to walk alongside an Afghan family as they begin this new chapter of their life in Bloomington. We want YOU to join our Welcome Committee!
Some ways in which you can support a family as a member of our Welcome Committee is by informing us of housing opportunities for families, donating furniture and home goods, provide transportation to appointments and job interviews, accompany our new friends the grocery or bank to walk them through unfamiliar processes, and more. We need more passionate souls to be the hands and feet of Jesus, and any support you can give will go a long way towards making our new neighbors feel welcome.
If you’re interested in joining our Welcome Committee, we’d love to have you! We recommend that you review the video and training materials below before determining what you can commit to as a member of the Welcoming Committee. Then, contact Clint Merkel at clintmerkel@gmail.com to send in your forms and join the team!
